Igor was, to me, the dog of a lifetime. Definitely too demanding for my inexperienced hands, but the journey we shared taught me more than I could have hoped for. Igor is, and will always be, the best dog, yet the only one whose premature euthanasia I have contemplated. He was highly driven, dominant, self-assured, and capable. Igor traveled with me to over 14 countries, serving as an example in numerous training fields and real-life situations. With Igor, we engaged in protection work, obedience, and tracking, and he approached each discipline with the same attitude. Everything had to be done at full throttle, and the pursuit of perfection was constant. Igor had an abundance of energy, and life with him only began to settle when he could work daily, using his mind constantly. As a mixed-line male, Igor leaned more towards the traits of a working line.

Although Igor's temperament may not have been on the easy end of the spectrum, he was perfect for work. Disturbances were nonexistent when he was in action, and the cooperation with the handler in these situations was very close to ideal. The same passion was always present, whether we were in a defensive position or conducting searches. In everyday life, you couldn't turn Igor into a couch potato even if you tried, although after long days, he willingly collapsed into a soft spot to recharge his batteries. With Igor, you often heard the phrase "he'll calm down when he's X years old." At 13 years old, he still had his energy levels at full, albeit in fewer working tasks. Igor lived his entire life in good health, and the only time he needed to see a vet was due to his own energy, tearing a ligament during activities. Igor never had infections, allergies, or even tartar on his teeth, and he did not develop prolonged illnesses in old age. Eventually, at almost 14 years old, Igor ascended to the clouds due to a rapidly growing tumor.

 

Igor's strengths included tenacity, drives, and a continuous eagerness to work, not to mention his good health. Weaknesses would include a somewhat excessive dominance, too much energy, and occasional lack of a sense of humor.
